Kaltura Update Coming in December

On December 16 and 17, the default Kaltura video player will be updated to version 7. This new version brings enhanced functionality and improved security features.

Detailed instructions on updating embedded players will be provided in November.

Improvements with the V7 Player

  • Faster load times
  • A sleek, modern design
  • Enhanced responsiveness, optimizing performance across devices such as mobile, tablet, and desktop
  • Improved functionality for multi-source recordings on mobile devices and tablets
  • A built-in transcript viewer that displays closed captions in a clickable timeline by default, with an option to pop out the transcript into a separate window
  • Improved performance with Kaltura Video Quizzes: Version 7 fixes an issue where quiz questions didn’t appear when the video was played at speeds faster than 1x
  • Broader support for 360-degree videos, including compatibility with Safari
  • Ability to preview deleted recordings directly from the Recycle Bin without restoring them first

Windows 11 Upgrade Reminder

Windows 11 is here! All KSU classroom and lab computers were upgraded to Windows 11 prior to Summer 2024. Nearly 7,000 of you have made the switch as well!

If you have not yet upgraded to Windows 11, please do so at your earliest convenience. All KSU computers must be upgraded to Windows 11 in Fall 2024. Beginning October 21, UITS will enable an automatic update for all computers still using Windows 10. This update will require a restart within 24 hours and will take about 20 minutes to complete. 

Although Windows 11 features a new look, key applications like Outlook and Office remain unchanged. Upgrade today to enjoy the latest features and enhanced security provided by Windows 11.

Follow these steps to upgrade to Windows 11:

  1. Open Software Center:
    1. Click the Start menu.
    2. With the Start menu open, begin typing Software Center.
    3. Locate and open the Software Center application.
  2. Initiate installation:
    1. In the Software Center window, select Updates on the left side.
    2. Select the available Windows 11 version.
    3. Click Install to start the upgrade process. The upgrade process may take up to 2 hours. You will be able to continue to use your computer during this time.
  3. Restart to complete your installation:
    1. Once the download and installation are complete, you will be prompted to restart your computer.
    2. Save any open work and proceed with the Restart. The Restart process may take up to 20 minutes. You will not be able to use your computer during this time.
