AI at KSU: Microsoft Copilot

IMPORTANT: Always check with your professor(s) before using AI for academic work.

Check out Microsoft Copilot, an artificial intelligence (AI) powered chatbot that produces text and images—and it's the only AI tool that ensures data protection for KSU students, faculty, and staff.

While Copilot is available for everyone, to protect your data you MUST log in at copilot.microsoft.com using your KSUmail address and password. Look for the "Protected" logo in the top-right corner—this indicates your data is encrypted, not retained by Microsoft, and not used as a training set for the AI.

Many AI chatbots save data you enter and even use it to train their systems. Currently, the only way to use AI securely for KSU-related tasks is to access Copilot with your KSU credentials as described above.

AI: Creating Effective Prompts

When it comes to creating effective prompts, it’s all about giving clear instructions and engaging with Copilot the way you would with a fellow human! Follow these tips to craft prompts that unlock the full potential of Copilot:

  • Consider your desired outcome: No matter the type of content you want the AI to generate, start by asking yourself, “What result do I hope to achieve?”
  • Structure your prompt with purpose: Place the most important information at the beginning of your prompt.
  • Use natural language: Communicate with AI just as you would with a human.
  • Provide context: Share background information as well as details about the intended audience.
  • Define the task: Try using these words to direct the AI: explain, describe, translate, create, write, predict, advise, imagine, summarize, revise.
  • Be specific: The more precisely worded your prompt, the more precise the generated content will be.

Protect your—and KSU’s—data when using AI: Access Microsoft Copilot, a powerful AI chatbot, securely by logging in to copilot.microsoft.com with your KSU credentials. Verify the Protected icon is visible at the top of the screen.

Reminder: Always check with your professor(s) before using AI for academic work.

Security Alert: Money Mule Scams

Money mule scams increasingly target students, who are often deceived by fraudsters pretending to be legitimate employers. These criminals lure unsuspecting individuals into illegal money laundering schemes disguised as genuine job opportunities. The consequences can be devastating—even those unaware of their involvement in a crime may face serious legal ramifications, including a criminal record.

To combat this, students, their families, and educators must stay informed, exercise caution with online job offers, and protect sensitive financial information. Awareness campaigns like INTERPOL’s #YourAccountYourCrime initiative play a vital role in educating the public about these scams, promoting vigilance, and fostering safer online behaviors.
